“She opens her mouth in wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.” Proverbs 31:26
We watch television and movies today that depict mothers and we rarely see a godly woman. A woman who possesses wisdom and speaks with grace, truth, and kindness. A woman as shown in the wisdom literature of Proverbs Chapter 31:
“She open her mouth in wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.
She looks well to the ways of her household, and does not eat the bread of idleness.
Her children rise up and bless her; her husband also, and he praises her, saying:
‘Many daughters have done nobly, but you excel them all.’
Charm is deceitful and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord , she shall be praised. Proverbs 31:26-30
Most women in today’s world chase what Solomon, the writer of Proverbs and Ecclesiastes, says is vanity. “Vanity of vanities! All is vanity” Ecclesiastes 1:2. They eat the fruit of this world and the lies that go with it instead of the fruit of wisdom and life that comes from knowing Christ, so they will never become the woman God has called them to be. Any person who is following anything other than the grace, love, and truth that comes from Jesus Christ is chasing the vanities of this world. However, the godly and righteous woman described in Proverbs 31 follows the Lord, she “fears the Lord.” She loves, respects, and honors the Lord and because of that, the Bible says, “she shall be praised.”
How can a woman open her mouth in wisdom and teach kindness? How can she truly look well to the ways of her household without eating the bread of idleness? How can a mother excel – training up her children in an excellent way to God’s glory? There is only one way. It is only through the presence and power of Christ in her.
“Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful. Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God. Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the Name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.” Colossians 3:15-17
I hope you know the presence and power that can only come from knowing Jesus Christ our Lord, because it is only through Christ that we can truly have life and have it eternally and abundantly.
This Sunday, May 11, is Mother’s Day. Bless your mother on Mother’s Day! “Her children rise up and bless her” Proverbs 31:28.
