But God, being rich in mercy because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ. Ephesians 2:4-5
The Bible explains to us that we are born in sin and rebellious by nature. Even though God created us in His image, we are radically corrupted by sin and have a sinful nature. We are spiritually dead in our sin as everyone else who has ever been born into this world as stated in Ephesians Chapter Two:
And you were dead in your trespasses and sins…among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest.
However, the great love, mercy and grace of God is found in Jesus Christ who saves us from our sin and the wrath of a holy and just God. The good news, the Gospel of Jesus Christ, is this:
God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him. Romans 5:8-9
Jesus Christ, the ultimate sacrifice, paid the penalty of your sin and my sin on the cross and we have been justified by His blood shed on the cross. Because of the sacrifice of Christ, and His death, burial, and resurrection, we are saved from our sin and the wrath of God through faith in Christ.
But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ…For by grace, you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is a gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. Ephesians 2: 4-5; 8-9
God’s great love, mercy and grace is so vast, far and wide that He provided the way, the ultimate sacrifice, to save us from our sin and from His own wrath against sin. The ultimate precious sacrifice was His very own Son.
For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. John 3:16
May God bless you with His grace, love and truth!
