Following the Lie or the Truth

“This is the message we have heard from Him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in Him is no darkness at all.  If we say we have fellowship with Him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.  But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ the Son cleanses us from all sin.”  1 John 1:5-7

As Christians prepare for Christmas and the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ, the light of the world, there are many people throughout the world who don’t believe in the birth of Christ and reject the Biblical truth of Christ.

Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus, and other false religions devised by man throughout history reject the Biblical truth of Christ, walk in darkness, and follow the lies of the world.  Mormons, Jehovah Witnesses, Christian Scientists, and other cult followers reject the Biblical truth of Christ, walk in darkness, and follow the lies of the world.  Atheists, secular progressives, new age believers, and liberal church goers reject the Biblical truth of Christ, walk in darkness, and follow the lies of the world.  Christians, however, who believe in Jesus Christ and the truth of His Word are forgiven of their sins, walk in the light of Christ, and have eternal life.  This is the precious promise and truth of God.  Listen to 1 John 5:11-13:

“And this is the testimony, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.  Whoever has the Son of God has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.  I write these things to you who believe in the Name of the Son of God that you may know that you have eternal life.”

Christians, and only Christians, have the confidence and assurance “to know” that we have eternal life in Christ.  We have been saved by God’s grace through faith in Christ (Ephesians 2:8-9), born again into the family of God as children of God (1 John 3:1), and God confirms this supernatural event in our lives by the power of the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:16).

During this wonderful time of year as we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, the Lord and Savior of the world, do you follow the lie or the truth?  Are you walking in darkness or light?  Are you dead in your sins or have your sins been forgiven?  Do you know for sure you have eternal life?

Listen to this assurance from 1 John 3, “By this we shall know that we are of the truth and reassure our heart before Him…That we believe in the Name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another, just as He commanded us…And by this we know that He abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us.”  1 John 3:19, 23, 24

May God bless you with His grace, love, and truth!
